So this is a post I could drag on for hours and hours but I will try to keep it short. This is the post about how I met my handsome boyfriend, O.J.
It was just after I had turned 13, and my cousin Megan had invited my dad and I to witness her baptism. She was living at our grandmother's house at the time in Pacifica, in the same house our mothers grew up in. Being young, we didn't want to hang out with the 'old farts', so we decided we wanted to go for a walk.
As we walked down the street, we ran into two of her friends from school, Kevin and David. She told them that we wanted to go to the park and would be there shortly after we ate. They said they would come and asked if they could bring O.J. along. Megan said sure and we parted ways.
After eating, Megan, her brother Jordan and I all headed to the park and that's where it all started. He looked so dang cute! And he was shy which made him that much cuter. We introduced ourselves and then decided to play a game... you guessed it, Tag. And who was on my team? You guessed it, O.J. He was so cute, the way he would try to protect me from getting tagged and we would hide together under the bridge or something. The way he tried to protect me from getting tagged was just the cutest thing ever to me. We hid under a little castle-like part of the playground and I can still remember the smile he gave me. After a few more hours we realized we had to get ready for Megan's baptism and knew we had to get going. We invited all three boys to come with us to watch Megan get dunked and they said they would come.
We picked the boys up on our way to the church, and O.J. sat next to me in the car. We talked, and flirted and really just enjoyed each other's company the whole way there. Once we got there, it was picture time. Everyone in attendance posed for a picture and we just had a blast. Before the ceremony, one of the Young Women's leaders walked up to me and asked if I knew the song I am a child of God and of course I did, so she asked if I would sing with the Young Women because they were kind of low in numbers. I accepted and then we were ready to get the party started. As the ceremony began, we took our seats and O.J. just happened to take the one next to me. When it was time to sing, I got up, and sang my little heart out, and the entire time I was singing, I just couldn't take my eyes off of him.
From there, Megan and Jordan were baptized, and shortly after, we all broke for refreshments. O.J. followed me around like a little puppy dog, and when I told him I needed to find a drinking fountain, he offered to follow, which I didn't mind. At the water fountain, I sipped the cool liquid as he shyly asked if I wanted to keep in contact with him. I blushed, nearly chocked on some water, and smiled the biggest smile my face could possibly hold and said yes. He asked for my email address and handed me a pen. I had nothing to write on, so he pulled up his long sleeve, and offered his arm as a sheet of paper. I scribbled down my address and then we slowly started walking back to the rest of the festivities. I was detained briefly by someone I knew and he walked back into the room to find David and Kevin. As I walked into the room shortly after, I saw the three of them huddled over in the corner, all staring at his exposed arm, and when he caught my eye, he quickly covered it, hoping I wouldn't notice.... But I did.... And that was the moment, I knew, that this young man at the time, would always have a place in my heart and in my life.
As my dad rushed me out of the room so we could make the three hour car ride home, I quickly said goodbye to my family, and new friends and started walking to the door where our rickety old Volks Wagen bus was waiting for us. But when I turned to O.J. to give him a hug goodbye, we didn't hug right away. He started walking with me to the door, where we stopped, hugged, promised to stay in contact, and parted ways. But as that old bus pulled away from the church parking lot, I turned one last time to see him smiling and waving at me, all the way until we were out of sight.
It was dark as we drove home, and I usually sleep whenever I lay down in the back of a bus.... well I usually sleep when in a moving vehicle, but for some reason, I couldn't sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I could see his smiling face staring back at me, with his braces hanging out and his eyes squinted. I never forgot that face. And I know I never will.
I love my boyfriend, with all my heart. We have some fantastic memories, and some that are not so great. But I know that is how a relationship works, and I know that we can make it through anything. He is my knight in shining armor as well as my prince charming. And nothing will ever change that.

They always say "Don't drink the water"
I live a measly 11 miles from the Mexican boarder, and if you can remember from my Ireland post, I want to take more advantage of sightseeing wherever I go. So last year in July, O.J., his friend Solis and another guy and I all decided to go down to Mexico for the night. If it hadn't been for Solis, (who spoke fluent Spanish) I don't think we would have gone. So this is how the night played out.
We picked up Solis, then picked up his friend (and I feel sorry for the guy because I can't remember his name for the life of me but I'm pretty sure it was along the lines of David). Once we had everyone we started heading for the boarder. We took the last exit in the United States (literally, the sign says that too) and parked the car in a cheep little parking lot and started walking over the bridge to Mexico.
Once in Mexico, we were bombarded with fliers for all the night life in Tijuana AKA TJ. We had already decided we didn't want to stay in TJ and that we wanted to go to this little beach front club down in Rosarito. So we hailed a taxi, which wasn't hard because everyone was asking us if we needed one, and with the help of Solis and his bilingual tongue, we got a van to carry us all to party town Rosarito. It was beautiful because the taxi van took us to the scenic route and we drove right along the coast the whole way. We could see the moon reflecting off a calm, deep blue ocean. Once in Rosorito, I saw why it was a good idea to leave the car and take a taxi. The streets were packed with partiers and cars alike. Pedestrians were cutting off cars left and right, cars were cutting off pedestrians right and left, it was just hectic. And you could hear music from the club Papas and Beer as well as all the little shops open looking for business.
By this point, everyone was starving, so I used my sniffer to track down this little taco shop that was hoppin. Haha, listen to me, I'm using club lingo like 'hoppin'. Anyways, we ordered some tacos and took a seat. They brought out our orders with some salsa and chips and we all went to town. OJ and I put the salsa on our tacos and man did that taste good, but no one else felt adventurous to try the El Diablo's salsa.... that's not really what it was called though, it was just HOT!
After we stuffed our faces and felt energised again, we were ready for some dancing. Papas and Beer here we come! Now when I said beach front club I meant beach front club... half of the place was sand. It even had a volleyball court in the middle of club. I wanted to play so bad, but we were there to dance, not play. I knew not to drink the water, unless it was bottled and so I ordered a coca cola while the others had fun. So after a few hours, we felt like mixing it up. Solis knew of another club, but it was back up in TJ. We were too thrilled about that, but we weren't ready to go home. We figured, we would hit one more club and if it was in TJ, it would be closer to home and we could just boarder hop once we were finished with the next club.
Enter... Coco Bongo. The club was colorful, loud and very active from the outside so I was up for it. What I wasn't expecting though were all the professional male dancers up on the stage in the middle of the room. Man was that embarrassing. Being the only girl of our group and with my boyfriend.... yeah.... Luckily they were only on stage for about another 10 minutes. The Coco Bongo was soooo loud. We just couldn't hear ourselves think! So I whispered into O.J.'s ear, which ended up me screaming into his ear that I was ready to go, and I could tell he wasn't feeling well. He looked pale and he had a headache just as bad as I did from how loud the music was. Time to round up the crew... only problem was, Solis and David* were nowhere to be found. After about a half hour of worried searching, they finally presented themselves and we were on our way home. I could tell O.J. was done for the night.
We got over the boarder and were yards away from the car when O.J. started complaining about wanting to throw up, and throw up he did. I felt so bad for the poor guy because he was the driver, and he didn't look or feel good. All he wanted to do was get home and rest. So first stop was David's*. Then on to Solis. From there, we got 2 blocks from Solis's house when we came up to a light. It was about 2 am and so there were no cars and the light was green. But O.J. stopped at the light, threw off his seat belt, flung open the door and ... well had a repeat of his earlier display. At this point I knew all we had to do was get home. But which way was home? We knew how to get to Solis's house, but had NO idea how to get back. Can you say lost? This was not the time to get lost. O.J. was sweating, panting and pale and we needed to get home like, an hour ago....
Finally after some extensive searching and great navigation skills on his part, O.J. got us home. The next day... guess who got sick....Me. And I didn't understand it. I didn't drink the water, O.J. didn't drink the water... we didn't have anything ..... *DING* light bulb.... EL DIABLO'S SALSA!
That was our only explanation.
So take a tip from me, do as Charlotte did in the Sex and the City movie and BYOP.... 'Bring your own Pudding'. Needless to say, next time we go to Mexico... we will definitely be eating BEFORE we go.

Erika Grannis???
So in my baby book there is a section that my mom filled out that asks what other names they were considering naming me. I noticed that there was only one name down and it was Erika.
Now I don't have anything against the name Erika, but I just don't think that name suits my personality. I mean it makes you think, you know. Like, if I was named Erika, would I still be the goofy me? I know I wouldn't have the nickname Kat... that would change a lot of my silliness I think. I mean think about it, honestly... if I wasn't named Kat, I wouldn't be able to ACT like a cat and purr in people's ear to make them laugh, or brush up against them like a cat for attention.... I would be pretty boring, in my opinion. I think my friends find me fun because I am who I am and I act how I act... Would I still act like that if I was named Erika?
Maybe I'm looking too far into this, but then another question rises... well if I was going to be named Erika, what would my middle name have been? Because I know my mom wasn't stupid enough to name me Erika Eileen..... I mean, I would have been a completely different person....
How strange is that to think about? What if I was named something like Erika Christine? Would I be some kind of Politician? Or what if it was like Erika Lilian? Would I be a hippie? I mean there are so many different combinations, I don't think I could make them work with the same personality I have now... And if I didn't have the same personality that I have now, would I have the same friends I have now? Would the friends I have had for 12, 13, 14 years have even payed attention to me? Like the twins? I know there are kids our age on the block that I never hung out with. If my name and personality were different, would I be hanging out with those kids unstead of my friends since kindergarten? Would the twins even want to be my friend? I mean they are awesome people who get along with just about everyone, but we still have all the same memories and good times that we have now if I were different. Or would I even like them???? GASP! Like I said, I may be looking too too far into this, but I have thought about it before. Just never really voiced that...
Just some thinking I was doing. And some thinking I don't care to do anymore.

Skipping number one...
So I thought number one on my list of 100 wasn't that interesting to blog about so I thought I would move on to the second on my list being:
2. I have lived in Ireland.
The reason I moved to Ireland in the first place was because my father met and married a beautiful Irish woman by the name of Chris. My dad thought I needed to be in a better family environment and so he sent me off the live in Portrush, Northern Ireland.
I moved over in September of 2004 at the age of 14, and returned back to the States in 2006 at the age of 16.
When I was living in Ireland, I didn't take advantage of being over there. I lived right next to many tourist attractions and beautiful Irish landmarks, and didn't take the opportunity to see them and enjoy my time over there. I spent much of my time moping around about how I missed California and the hot weather over there, and how I missed my friends... and now I really regret taking that experience for granted. I truly believe that my attitude was what held me back while I lived there. I mean, how many people get the opportunity to visit Ireland, let alone live there for two whole years? I really didn't see how wonderful that opportunity was until after it was taken from me. I have definitely changed my attitude about being new places because now that I look back at my time in Ireland, I realise I had the time of my life over there. And I try to walk into a new opportunity with an open mind and an open heart. I made some fantastic memories of Ireland, and I just wish I had enjoyed it from the beginning instead of complaining about the weather, or petty things of that nature and just enjoyed the beauty that weather did to the land. My outlook on life has changed since that experience and I try to look at the silver lining more often now.
I love Ireland with all it's cloudyness and it's tight streets. I miss the colors of the houses and doors. That was my little Tiki Taki Town and I miss it. I miss how in some parts of the country, you wouldn't get a numbered address... It would be more like The red door, or The blue door on such and such a street instead of a number. That was interesting. I miss so many things about Ireland and I have to say one thing I really miss, is how friendly people are over there.
Awww I wish I was there right now, curled up next to the fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa listening to songs like "Gordon is a moron" or " Right said Fred". So many great memories and my Irish family made it so special. And for that I thank them.
Good memories. And I miss my kitty Lady...

Meet the family.
I guess it is only fair to introduce the family.
First off is my boyfriend Orlando. I call him O.J. because that is how I was introduced to him. He is 21, and serving in the United States Navy. He has been serving in the Navy for 3 years now and is enlisted for another three years. Right now he is overseas serving and has been away for 5 months. He has one month to go before he comes home and let me tell you, I can't wait. His job in the Navy is a Seabee, meaning he mainly deals with construction. In his line of work, he does not tour on a ship, he is landbased. We have known each other for 6 and a half years now and we have been living together in San Diego for over a year. He is such a sweetheart and I adore him greatly.
Next would be my 10 month old Miniature Pinscher puppy Bruno. He is a black and tan puppy with so much personality. He is hyper, energetic and cute to boot. He has his moments of error but who can anyone stay mad at a puppy right? He has been such a blessing to me lately with O.J. being gone. O.J. got him for me as a companion while he is away and he sure knows how to warn me when someone is coming. What a good little gaurd dog.
And then there is me. :D
I'm sure if you're reading this blog you already know who I am, but I'll fill you in about me a little. I'm currently 19 but I will soon be hitting my 20's. I am currently unemployed which is a super bummer. Sadly I'm not taking any college courses either, BUT that will hopefully change soon as O.J. and I plan on taking courses at a local college here shortly after he comes home. Since O.J. has been gone, my days consist of me finding ways to entertain myself, taking my pup for walks, cleaning the house, and waiting for phone calls from my honey. Not the most interesting of lives, but I don't have to do that for much longer.
Well ta ta for now. Until we meet again.

Congradulations!
Congradulations. You have just entered into the world of Katelyn. This is a world of chaos, confusion and randomness. This is my first post, on my first blog, and I certainly hope not the last. I've been putting off starting this blog for 8 months now because I didn't think I would have anything to write about or I wouldn't have any followers. Then I finally bucked up enough courage to just go for it. I figured I wouldn't know how sucessful this blog would be without giving it a shot right?
So here goes. All or nothing. And I'm sure as heck going to try to give it more than nothing. So again, welcome to my world. Just sit back, read, and hopefully enjoy a little story about a girl named Katelyn and her journey SO FAR through life.
